Okay, so this is not a traditional holiday destination but for many years it has been a week where I head to a field and forget about the outside world.
There are plenty of articles out there for ‘top tips for Glastonbury’ but I find them to be pretty obvious. I have created my personal list of tips that hopefully helps make life easier, cleaner, less painful.
Glastonbury is a marathon, not a sprint!

Hygiene
- Use the door latch on the green toilets to hook your bag through before locking it and sitting on the toilet so it doesn’t touch the floor 🚽
- Compost toilets are far far better than any others on site
- Take moist toilet wipes…and pack more tissue than you think you need each day. You’ll need some to wipe the seat, unless you are an expert hoverer. At 5ft 3in, I am not. 💩
Clothing
- It can get chilly at night especially if there is no cloud cover, so take a jumper in your bag. 🥶
- Double the amount of underwear. Esp if hot.
- Whatever you wear on arriving at the festival will most likely be drenched in sweat after the trek with your bag and kit, so don’t expect to be able to wear it again!
- Go to the Guardian stand near Williams green area to buy the paper and you get a free canvas rucksack which is much kinder to your shoulders than a tote. 🎒
Food & Drink
- Decant spirits into plastics. I recommend spirits over cans of booze as they are heavy and are horrid warm.
- Bring cash with you. One year the card machine system went down and bars couldn’t take payments!
- Coop supermarket on site is good for emergencies but always massive queues and pricy. Go early morning or very late if you can.
- Hydration sachets FTW. I also take cheese topped buns to ram in when I get home or in the morning to stave off the hangover.
- Take your metal water bottle for refilling.
Camping
- EARPLUGS, for the love of god. 🙉
- Collect/keep paper cups for your tent so you can have an emergency wee. Even if you are close to the toilets it’s handy if you don’t want to navigate the maze of guy ropes in the dark.
- Glamping is usually quite far away. It took me 45 mins to walk from my campsite to the Pyramid stage. Pack for the whole day so you don’t have to fuck about going back to your tent.
- Download what three words app. It works.
- Type up a note on your phone with IF FOUND CALL XXXXXX and list some of your groups phone numbers and put as your screensaver. Also take your work phone as a back up.
Stages
- If you want to see bands in tents, hold hands with your gang, and be prepared to (politely) barge if you want to get through. People hold their ground. 🤝
- Brothers bar on Weds Eve is usually a vibe from later afternoon/early evening and a good base to catch up with your different groups of friends.
