Formula 1 is a sport I have followed for a long time and I visited the 2023 Miami Grand Prix where Max Verstappen went from ninth position to the win. I’m a Max fan, contrary to most people’s disgust so this was an epic weekend for me…
Top tips for attending Miami Grand Prix.
- The Hard Rock Stadium, location of the race is technically in Miami Gardens, which is anything from 30-45 mins from the city. If this is the main purpose of your visit to the area, I would recommend staying east of the stadium in the Aventura or Sunny Isles area. The traffic is slightly easier than coming from the south and is still near beaches/restaurants etc.
- The grounds of the race are HUGE and it will take a lot of time to get around. I would recommend arriving ready for when gates open so you can see as much as possible without succumbing to heat stroke. I never made it out to the ‘beach’ section of the track, and I was there for both Saturday and Sunday.
- Miami is HOT. This is not a surprise but seriously, treat yourself to an official team cap (second mortgage will be required when purchasing the merch) and stay hydrated.
- I had seats in the grandstand on turn 18, which were shaded and gave a view of a fast straight into the turn and also views of a screen. They aren’t cheap (c.1.5k USD pp), but do give a fantastic atmosphere. For lower cost options, a campus pass is available but the view points are not great in my opinion. Having been to other circuits there are often hills or raised locations to watch, whereas the Hard Rock Stadium is all completely flat. Viewing platforms are dotted around but if Miami F1 is on your bucket list, I’d say go all out and pay for the grandstand seats.
- Make sure you check out some of the more unique areas of the grounds including the marina, and the broad range of food on offer. Miami’s international cuisine is represented across the circuit so plenty of ways to fuel up ahead of the race action.

Touristing
If I am completely honest this isn’t my favourite circuit, but was fortunate enough to be invited through working on Miami Open tennis and it was great to experience a US race. I’d recommend making a week of it and experience some touristic gems down south.
If don’t want to venture down south, you could check out Aventura Mall (4th largest mall in the USA!), the Hard Rock Hotel (the Giant Guitar atop the hotel is the thing to look out for). There are also the beaches for chill out days either side of the race.
